I wondered why this dream sang about throwing beans on the ground along the river... a year or so later I synchronously came upon an article about a permaculture event on the Pine Ridge reservation that explained it. The wisdom keeper talked about ancestors who followed the food and left beans along the river that would be ready to eat when they returned.
Lyrics:
We are the ones we’ve waited for
We are here for the Earth / and for Nature
We are here for the Earth
VERSE 1
Go down to the river and lean upon the ground
Go down to the river today
Take some red , yellow
And black and white beans and
Throw them on the ground to pray
VERSE 2
Go down to the river and spit upon the ground
Give back 2 earth what she gave!
The only thing that’s really ours is in our DNA
Ga li i li ga! Indigenous ways will help us learn to stay
Ga li i li ga o sa da dv
Ga li i li ga o sa da dv
Ga li i li ga o sa da dv
We are grateful, we are grateful to the earth, 4 our life, as it is...
Burn some sage/ leave some hair
Sing some heart-centered prayer
Give back to Earth what she gave
Take some red, take some yellow, take some black and white beans and throw them on the ground to pray.
Ga li i li ga o sa da dv
Ga li i li ga o sa da dv
Ga li i li ga o sa da dv
We are grateful, we are grateful to the earth, 4 our life, as it is...
We are the ones we’ve waited for
We are here for the Earth / and for Nature
We are here for the Earth
